Valparaiso is a city located in Porter County, Indiana, in the northwest corner of the state. The population was a little more than 34 thousand according to the 2020 census. The land where Valparaiso now sits was originally included in the purchase of land from the Potawatomi people by the U. S. Government in 1832. The city has a long history of being a transportation hub in the surrounding region, in the 1850’s the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad reached the city, connecting it directly to Chicago. Today, the city no longer has a passenger train station, but is still a strong landmark in the Crossroads of America, because of its close proximity to four major US highways.
